Clinical Background
Mr Chris Wright is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust (MTW), where he was permanently appointed in November 2014. He has specialist expertise in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and since 2025 has been performing complex robotic surgery. He also has a particular interest in abdominal wall hernia reconstruction.
From 2016 to 2020, Mr Wright served as Chair of the Colorectal Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) at MTW, overseeing the co-ordinated management of complex colorectal cases across surgical, oncological, radiological and pathological specialties.
Training and Qualifications
Mr Wright graduated from the University of Birmingham Medical School in 2002 and completed his higher surgical training in the London Deanery in 2013. At the conclusion of his training, he was awarded one of just six prestigious Ethicon Laparoscopic Colorectal Fellowships available nationally. This competitive fellowship provided broad experience in advanced laparoscopic techniques, undertaken at the internationally recognised laparoscopic unit at Colchester University Hospital.
Academic and Teaching Roles
In 2020, Mr Wright was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the new Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) when it opened for its first intake of students. Two years later, he became the lead for the Year 3 Surgery and Perioperative Care module. He has been involved in developing curriculum from Year 1 through to Year 5.
He completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education in 2023 and was subsequently awarded Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy. He is also a committed proponent of postgraduate medical education and is involved in training resident doctors across all grades.

Mr Wright offers his patients the full range of inpatient and outpatient colorectal and general surgical services, including emergency surgery. He takes pride in providing a personalised service with strong emphasis on effective and empathic communication. His approach places the patient at the centre of every clinical decision, with treatment plans tailored to the individual's circumstances, preferences and needs.
